Supported Living is a form of social care that helps individuals with disabilities, mental health challenges, or other support requirements live independently in their own homes or in community-based settings.

What regulated activities apply to Supported Living?

Supported Living services that provide personal care must register with the CQC under the regulated activity of Personal Care. This includes assistance with bathing, dressing, and medication management.

Step 1: Understand the CQC registration requirements

Before applying, providers must be familiar with the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014 and the CQC’s Single Assessment Framework.

Step 2: Appoint a Registered Manager

Every CQC-registered Supported Living service must have a Registered Manager. They must have relevant qualifications (typically a Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Adult Care) and sufficient experience working in health and social care.

Step 3: Prepare your Statement of Purpose

The Statement of Purpose is a key document that describes your service, including the regulated activities you intend to carry out, the service users you will support, and how you will meet their needs. ClouDoc provides a fully customisable Statement of Purpose template.

Step 4: Develop your policies and procedures

Providers must have comprehensive policies covering all aspects of service delivery, including safeguarding, medication management, infection prevention and control, complaints, and more. ClouDoc provides a full suite of CQC-compliant policies for Supported Living services.

Step 5: Complete the CQC application

The CQC registration process involves completing the Provider Information Return (PIR) and the Fit Person Interview for the Registered Manager. Providers must also submit evidence of their policies, financial viability, and premises.

Step 6: Prepare for CQC inspection

Once registered, Supported Living services are inspected by the CQC against the five key questions: Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive, and Well-led. Providers must demonstrate evidence across all five domains.

For any questions about CQC registration or compliance documents, call ClouDoc on 0330 808 0050 or email support@caredaily.co.uk.
